Resurrected from a Garbage Pile
"The Metal Bench"

Part 2

One man's junk is another's art! ...Something like that!

Liz had this rusty old junky metal bench. The whole family laughed at it and tried to throw it away more than once. But Liz, had a plan. She knew exactly what she wanted to do. The picture was created in her mind and that old rusty bench was going to become a work of art. It was just a matter of when!

Here's a few pictures of art in process. Actually with a little imagination you too can take that old chair, table or any piece of old furniture and make it your artful creation. Let's take a look at the process.

The photographer was missing in action. Anyway, after the primer was applied a couple coats of yellow enamel paint were sprayed with some white accents on the handles and the square in the backrest.

Here Liz begins her layout by taking a pattern and using special paper to apply part of the design to the backrest of the chair!

You can almost see out backyard. A giant oak tree in the background and off in the distance is a river. We live in a virtual mosquito factory so Liz is enjoying a reprieve from the moquitos by painting inside our screened porch. art project hand painted flowers on metal bench

art project hand painted flowers on metal bench Liz actually found this design in a magazine and packed it in her memory for the last couple of years. (Surprised in came out) You can see the intrique pattern of lines and stripes. The faded blue that can barely be seen is the pattern drawn in the previous photo.

None of these finished photos really does this project justice, but I wanted you to be able to see the detail that went into this project. Once again you can see the pattern that's used as a rough placement for the flowers that will be drawn.

Notice also that the finish is fairly smooth. Even though it was very rusted in the beginning. Sanding down to the metal allowed for an almost new like finish!

I tried to get a little closer shot of the flowers and detail that is in the lines of the backrest. It is superb! art project hand painted flowers on metal bench
